October 14th & 15th, 2011 She's not lost because we remember . . . |

Welcome to Storytelling... Step into the magical world of storytelling, and join us for the 33rd annual Alabama Tale-Tellin’ Festival. We’ll meet on the terrace of Carneal ArtsRevive for an evening of colorful stories and music. Hear tales that touch hearts and songs that lift spirits. From the bayous of south Alabama to the mountains of Appalachia, this year’s storytellers bring a diverse mix of down-home history and humor. Add a vocal string band, and the night will roll right along with the river. This year’s event will also feature a tribute to Kathryn Tucker Windham, founder of the festival, who went to her heavenly home in June 2011. The masterful tale teller and mistress of ceremonies captured our hearts with tales of ghosts, folk remedies and life in the South. Therefore, our theme this year is, She's not lost because we remember . . . “Miss Kathryn” was a pioneering female journalist and photographer when an apparition she named Jeffrey appeared in her Selma home, coaxing her to write the popular Jeffrey ghost story books. When she was invited to the prestigious National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro, Tennessee, she soon became its “unofficial grand dame” and brought back ideas for a festival in her own town. As the premiere storyteller of the South, the author of 26 books and numerous tapes, videos and commentaries, “Miss Kathryn’s” stories will live on for other generations. But her hope was that others would tell their stories too. And so, we’ll honor her example and continue the tradition. Come
early (5:30 p.m.) and listen to the informal tales at the Swappin'
Ground where everybody is invited to tell a favorite story--a short
one! While you listen, munch on goodies from the concession
stand. See you there!
